About the Role

The City of Burnaby is seeking a highly skilled Public Engagement Strategist to develop and implement its communications and community engagement strategy. This role involves providing advice on high-profile council priorities, sensitive matters, and confidential issues. The successful candidate will also be responsible for analyzing emerging operational issues and initiatives, identifying areas for improvement, and developing guidance and assistance plans.

Additionally, the Public Engagement Strategist will manage communications and community engagement staff, providing direction and guidance on recruitment, performance management, training, coaching, and development. They will also conduct investigations and administer discipline as necessary.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in communications, business administration, English, journalism, or a related field and at least five years of experience in a similar role. They will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
