Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Propak is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive engineering and design services for electrical systems in oil and gas processing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish design criteria and implement the preparation of specifications, design, computations, and deliverables according to project requirements.
  • Supervise and provide technical direction to design activities undertaken by engineering, design, and drafting staff working on assigned projects.
  • Review and approve electrical equipment specifications and data sheets, including transformers, switchgears, MCC's, protection relays, motors, generators, transmission, and distribution equipment.
  • Review and approve inquiry, evaluation, and purchase requisition of electrical and controls equipment.
  • Prepare electrical project schedule for engineering, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Produce progress reports and execute change management process.
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of electrical design throughout the project.
  • Coordinate project requirements with project team members.
  • Participate in the development of operation, maintenance, and start-up philosophies.
  • Review design criteria and documents for the detailed design of power and control distribution systems including single line diagrams.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as demand load analysis, equipment sizing, voltage drops, and lighting design.
  • Generate electrical construction work package documents.
  • Generate electrical evaluation quotations and create purchase order requisitions for major electrical equipment and field installation contracts.
  • Review and mark-ups package/skid drawings.
  • Support and assist the electrical project team in design of equipment layouts, area classification, grounding, motor control schematics, cable schedules, electric heat tracing, etc.
  • Provide field construction support, commissioning, and start-up of facilities.
  • Apply practical knowledge and develop a broad base of skills while contributing to the overall success of Propak's operations through interaction with a cross-functional team.
  • Ensure designs and installations comply with codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Assess and update Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for electrical equipment accuracy.
  • Design Motor Control Schematics.
  • Prepare detailed designs for Electrical and Control Systems.
  • Prepare and maintain electrical equipment and motor lists.
  • Specify Electrical and Control Equipment.
  • Participate in bid / evaluate / award process.
  • Review and approve vendor drawings and documents.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews.
  • Assist in development of Area Classification Drawings and Fugitive Emission studies.
  • Perform shop inspections and resolve technical issues.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
  • Assist with resolving technical issues in the shop or field.
Requirements:
  • A recognized degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • P. Eng Membership in APEGA.
  • 10+ years of directly related experience in electrical design of oil and gas processing facilities.
  • Experience within an EPC and EPCM work environment.
  • Background in ETAP power system modeling and analysis and plant layout.
  • Knowledgeable of Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Knowledgeable of federal/provincial safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet objectives while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office setting with usual weekday office hours. Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines. Requires the ability to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiries. Coping with frequent interruption and changing priorities. Required to attend meetings at other buildings. May involve occasional project site visits, often with little notice.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer, reading manuals, etc...
  • Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away file boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional ability to stand for extended periods for faxing, scanning, and photocopying.
  • Manual dexterity for data input, paperwork and use of standard office equipment.
  • Climbing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling when examining equipment.
  • Must wear company-standard PPE when entering fabrication shops, yards, and project sites. Project site PPE includes CSA approved steel toed boots and long pants.
  • Walking on uneven ground is to be expected in yards and at project sites.
