We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports, providing financial guidance and advice to senior management, and leading the annual budgeting process.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Provide financial guidance and advice to senior management on accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Lead the annual budgeting process to support the annual business plan
- Contribute to a strong system of internal control at the Gallery by ensuring adherence to existing controls and policies
- Support the Director's roles and responsibilities to the Board of Directors and Committees of the Board through preparation of quarterly reports and memos
- Assist the Director to ensure timely and accurate year-end government reports
- Manage the work assignments of staff to ensure that services provided are timely, accurate, and enquiries are responded to in an efficient and satisfactory manner
- Act as a lead contact for all financial matters for Gallery departments to provide accurate and timely information to support their work
- Contribute to cash management functions, including updating cash flow projections monthly and developing recommendations regarding cash management strategies
- Enhance the capacity of the organization by seeking, developing, implementing, and maintaining technology-based solutions for accounting, administrative, forecast, and budget processes
- Chartered Professional Account designation
- Several years of progressive relevant experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in preparing internal and external financial statements, financial analysis, budgets, forecasts, and cash management
- Expert level Microsoft Excel skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with Sage 300 or a strong comfort level with accounting software and reporting platforms
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Self-motivation, confidence, and the ability to perform under pressure to meet deadlines
