Polar Bear Alert Program Overview

    The Manitoba Government is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Wildlife Management Specialist in the Polar Bear Alert Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of the program, including hazing, setting up bear traps, and transporting polar bears into holding facilities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Participate in hazing and monitoring activities to deter polar bears from entering the town of Churchill.
    • Set up and maintain bear traps to safely capture and transport polar bears.
    • Provide public safety support to Conservation Officers as needed.
    • Monitor emergency response systems and provide navigation support to Conservation Officers.
    • Conduct educational workshops and maintain equipment and infrastructure.

    Requirements:

    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
    • Possess and maintain a valid Canadian Firearms License (PAL).
    • Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5 driver's license.
    • Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and be on call at all hours.
    • Must be physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position.
    • Experience with problem wildlife control and/or trapping is an asset.

    The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A valid driver's license and Canadian Firearms License are required, as well as a strong understanding of wildlife biology and conservation practices.
