Drywall Taper Job Description

BMS Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Ltd is seeking a skilled Drywall Taper to join our team. As a Drywall Taper, you will be responsible for installing and finishing drywall to ensure a smooth and even surface.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine work requirements
  • Instruct apprentices and provide guidance on drywall installation and finishing techniques
  • Clean and prepare surfaces for drywall installation
  • Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners
  • Fabricate and install suspended metal ceiling grids and place in panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings
  • Fill joints, nail indentations, holes, and cracks with joint compound using a trowel and broad knife
  • Finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in the finish coat, if required
  • Measure, cut, fit, and install drywall sheets
  • Mould and install ornamental plaster panels, cornices, and trim
  • Position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists
  • Attach metal or gypsum lath to studs or furring
  • Cut openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts, and electrical outlets
  • Install corner beads and wire mesh around beams to which plaster is to be applied
  • Install exterior and interior steel studs
  • Install metal stud framing and furring for interior drywall or plaster walls and ceilings, using hand and power tools
  • Install vapour barriers and thermal and sound insulation
  • Prepare wall and ceiling layouts
  • Utilize laser alignment systems
Work Environment:

This is a full-time position with a 40-hour workweek. The work environment is commercial, institutional, and residential settings.

Requirements:
  • 3 years to less than 5 years of experience in drywall installation and finishing
  • 1 to 2 people supervision
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
