The Royal Canadian Legion is Canada's largest Veteran's and community service organization with 260,000 members dedicated to advocating for and assisting those who have served Canada in the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP and other services during war and peace.

Job Summary

The Legion is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to become its National Executive Director and serve as the Chief Administrative and Chief Operating Officer of Dominion Command. This senior leadership role is responsible for the efficient management of all activities and programs, including employing, directing and managing the staff at the Legion's National Headquarters, managing Dominion Command finances, providing support to elected officers and dominion committees, advising the elected leaders on policy and matters of concern to the Legion, managing public information and relations, and interacting with various levels of government, other organizations and the branch and command levels of the Legion.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Directing and controlling the operation and administration of the Legion's National Headquarters
  2. Overseeing all departments, including determining staff requirements, remuneration and responsibilities
  3. Planning and coordinating the development and implementation of the organization's strategic objectives, including advocacy focus, support programs for Veterans and Remembrance initiatives
  4. Managing Dominion Command budget expenditures and ensuring effective financial management of resources, including allocation and acquisition of funds
  5. Formulating plans, programs and policy with a volunteer Board and implementing policy decisions
  6. Conducting liaison within the Legion's organizational structure, various levels of government, domestic and international fraternal associations, and the public
  7. Ensuring policies and programs are operationalized effectively

Requirements

The ideal candidate is passionate about Veterans and their health and wellbeing and possesses an extensive senior management background.

  • Military background
  • University degree
  • Extensive knowledge of Veteran support programs and experience in public advocacy
  • Involvement with not-for-profit organizations and charitable groups
  • Proven capability in financial management
  • Experience building and implementing plans encompassing a strategic vision and objectives
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills
  • Bilingualism an asset
