About the Role

The Residential Addiction Counsellor will work within CCH operated residential facilities, observing and managing client behaviours, and identifying potential mental health concerns for further follow-up. This role requires evidence-based interactions with clients, incorporating a multidisciplinary approach. The counsellor will ensure thorough documentation for clinical management and risk reduction, collaborating with other professionals to provide ongoing treatment and enhance life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide addiction and mental health counselling services to clients in a residential setting
  • Observe and manage client behaviours, identifying potential mental health concerns
  • Collaborate with other professionals to provide ongoing treatment and enhance life skills
  • Ensure thorough documentation for clinical management and risk reduction
  • Develop and maintain a non-judgmental approach to clients

Requirements

  • 2-year college diploma in a social service-related field
  • 2 years' experience in addiction and mental health counselling
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Valid first aid and CPR C certification
  • Food Handler Certification
  • Current suicide intervention training
  • Basic cooking and cleaning skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Strong team orientation
  • Knowledge of treatment modalities specific to addictions and mental health

Assets

  • Certification in Addiction Therapy/counselling
  • Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Familiarity with the Health Equity Impact Assessment and Safewards Model and Trauma Informed Care
  • Current with CCH Mandatory Training including Caregivers as Partner and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Working Knowledge of Harm Reduction Strategies inclusive of Safe Medication Practices, Naloxone Administration, Opiate Agonist Therapy
