About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Hardware Systems Engineer to join our dynamic Embedded R&D Hardware team at Cisco Montreal. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the development of network solutions, from initial requirements to production readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop hardware architect aptitudes by conducting feasibility studies, systems definition, requirements, and design specifications.
- Improve project management skills by collaborating on project plans, performing risk assessments, and participating in status meetings to report progress, risks, issues, or blockers.
- Stay on the edge of component, design, and manufacturing process limitations, guiding teams to make the best technological decisions to develop innovative solutions that outperform the competition.
- Polish knowledge of signals and powers integrity by covering high-speed interfaces, high-power distribution systems, and high-density design structures, defining layout guidelines to meet SI/PI and timing requirements.
- Improve system designer aptitudes by leading, supervising, and optimizing a multidisciplinary hardware development process (electrical, optical, mechanical, thermal, certification, manufacturing).
- Act as a gatekeeper to ensure the quality level of all physical work, coordinating, leading, and facilitating hardware design reviews with all teams of interest.
- Become a reference in test plans definition, board bring-up, system integration, system validation against requirements, specifications, and standards.
- Master product certification requirements, keep up to date with the latest regulatory standards, define certification test plans, develop reflexes to design products ready for certification, perform pre-compliance tests, take ownership of the final phase of certification, and support the agencies.
- Be a key contributor in providing high-quality support to other departments in the organization (manufacturing, customers, etc.), investigating sophisticated problems, providing root-cause-analysis, and proposing fixing solutions.
About You:
We are looking for a teammate who is self-motivated, autonomous, meticulous, pragmatic, and driven with a passion for innovation. You should possess creative analytical skills and master problem-solving, with strong oral and written communication skills to promote interactions and technical knowledge transfer between multi-disciplinary teams.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Confirmed experience with hardware system development (electrical, mechanical, thermal, certifications, manufacturing).
- Proficiency and confirmed experience with components selection, schematics entries, and layout guidelines.
- Master the use of test equipment for system bring-up and validation with excellent solving/debugging capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding the limitations of electrical, mechanical, and assembly fabrication processes.
- Hands-on experience with board re-work and repair during prototyping phase.
- Knowledge with high-speed interfaces, signal/power integrity, and timing closure concepts.
- Basic understanding of design concepts to meet certification requirements (EMC, Safety, Telco).
- Experience in supervising and advising hardware design development by internal and external teams.
- Skills with the following tools are an advantage: Omnify, DxDesigner, Xpedition, SolidWorks, Flotherm, Jira.
