Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations on AV Group's Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands. This role requires a strong leader who can manage and provide guidance to a high-performing team of individuals and external contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive woodlands budget that meets the company's goals and objectives.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective wood to AV Group's two NB Mills located in Nackawic and Atholville.
  • Maintain healthy wood inventories by species and form according to the company's safety stocks policy.
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads and Central Operations to identify opportunities to reduce wood costs and improve fiber yield and quality.
  • Negotiate wood contracts with market participants and the government under the terms of AV Group.
  • Understand the impact of woodlands department decisions on the company's P&L.
  • Build and maintain collaborative business networks within and outside AV Group.
  • Provide leadership to the woodlands team and the company as a whole.
  • Demonstrate autonomy in leading operations and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant sustainable certifications and credentials.
  • Represent AV Group in sustainability forums and conferences.
  • Live the company's safety culture and be a safety ambassador in the field.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering.
  • MBA considered a plus.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry.
  • A proven commitment to safety.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills.
  • High levels of resilience.
