Technical Manager, Waste Management
AtkinsRéalis is a leading provider of nuclear engineering services, with a strong presence in Canada and around the world. We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Manager to lead our Waste Management team.
The Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing the execution of design and technical activities in a project delivery environment, in accordance with industry standards and established governance. This will involve managing a team of engineers and ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of engineers responsible for designing and implementing waste management solutions.
- Oversee the execution of design and technical activities, ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with industry standards and established governance.
- Develop and implement quality management systems to ensure that all work meets the required standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that waste management solutions are integrated with other project activities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to staff, as required.
- Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.
- Approve engineering documents and deliverables.
- Participate in the preparation of commercial proposals and approve the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
- Forecast resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
- Work with marketing and other business groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering or engineering science from an accredited university.
- Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or eligible within six (6) months of hire.
- Experience managing engineering work with significant interfacing requirements with other engineering teams.
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286) and quality standards (CSA N299).
- Experience managing and/or performing work using nuclear Codes and Standards related to waste management, decommissioning, environmental assessments.
- Working knowledge of/experience with CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, CSA B51 Standard, ASME B31.1 code, and other applicable standards or regulatory guides.
- Experience in procurement, operation, and maintenance of waste management equipment / components.
- 10 years of experience in heavy water and tritium management, waste management, radiation and environmental protection, environmental impact assessment, refurbishment, safe storage, decommissioning and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and/or BAT assessment of CANDU design.
- 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience.
- 3 or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
- Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
- Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic project delivery environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
