About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our team at the Dirty Northern Public House. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, ensuring that all dishes and equipment are sanitized and in good working order.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing: Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, dishes, and utensils, including dishwashers, carts, and waste disposal units.
  • Food Preparation: Assist with food preparation, including washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables and fruits, as well as preparing, heating, and finishing simple food items.
  • Portioning and Wrapping: Portion and wrap foods for service, ensuring that all items are accurately labeled and stored in a clean and organized manner.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate manual and electrical appliances, including deep fryers and grills, to clean, peel, slice, and trim foodstuffs.
  • Supply Management: Receive, unpack, and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, and other storage areas, ensuring that all items are properly labeled and stored.
  • Garbage and Trash Removal: Remove kitchen garbage and trash, ensuring that all areas are kept clean and free of debris.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist with the maintenance of kitchen equipment, including sharpening kitchen knives and cleaning and sanitizing kitchen surfaces.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Experience: 7 months to less than 1 year of experience in a kitchen environment, or equivalent experience.
  • Work Setting: Willing to work in an urban area and relocate if necessary.
  • Transportation: Public transportation is available.
  • Work Conditions: Fast-paced environment, overtime required, repetitive tasks, standing for extended periods, and working under pressure.
  • Weight Handling: Able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • Personal Suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills, reliability, and a team player attitude.
