Job Summary

This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students' progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College's policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development: Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
  • Curriculum Development and Preparation: Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
  • Student Support and Advising: Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
  • Tutorial and Remedial Instruction: Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
  • Facilities and Equipment Management: Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
  • Project Supervision: Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
  • College Policies and Procedures: Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
  • Departmental and College Meetings: Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
Requirements
  • Education: An undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or related fields. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Five years of recent Canadian business management experience.
  • Professional Development: Completion of the Provincial Instructor's Diploma or equivalent, in a timely fashion after employment commences.
  • Teaching Experience: Successful post‐secondary teaching experience.
  • Instructional Ability: Demonstrated instructional ability and knowledge of principles of adult education.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills using English language.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Teamwork and Professional Growth: Evidence of commitment to team and personal professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree: Master's of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma: BC Provincial Instructor Diploma.
  • Engineering Discipline: Degree in engineering disciplines.
