Sylvan Learning is seeking a dedicated and passionate Tutor/Teacher to join our team in Coquitlam, BC. As a Tutor/Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning experience for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 in Reading, Writing, and Math.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for each instructional session, gathering and preparing materials as needed
  • Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student
  • Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs
  • Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
  • Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment
  • Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
  • Motivate students with Sylvan tokens and record/tracks tokens earned by students
  • Communicate specific student needs to centre staff
  • Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed
  • Complete certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students

Requirements:

  • Teaching credentials or attending post-secondary (minimum 3rd year) with the intention of pursuing education
  • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of iPads, Zoom, Google Drive/Docs, and Microsoft Word
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) in English
  • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students of all ages to learn
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible
  • Reliable form of transportation
