Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Electrical/Substation Engineer to join our engineering team on a full-time basis. As a Senior Electrical Engineer - Substation Design, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical substation systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Complete and authenticate outdoor substation design packages, including ampacity diagrams, layouts, plot plans, bus elevations, ground grid, equipment/structure grounding details, control & power cable layouts, control building electrical design, for voltage levels ranging from 25kV to 240kV.
  • Collaboration and Interface: Interface with other engineering disciplines to ensure overall design conformance is accomplished.
  • Calculations and Studies: Complete calculations and studies to support the design, including grounding, lightning, lighting, AC/DC Load Studies, station service transformer and battery bank sizing, insulation coordination, and rigid bus study.
  • Cable Ampacity Calculations: Complete MV cable ampacity calculations with CYMCAP.
  • Equipment Specifications: Develop equipment and apparatus specifications suitable for project application.
  • Vendor Review: Review vendor documentation and drawings to ensure constructability, operability, and compliance with equipment specifications and design.
  • Bill of Materials: Develop and maintain bill of materials for substation outdoor installation.
  • Design Review: Review engineered outputs to ensure compliance with project defined scopes and client requirements.
  • Site Support: Provide site construction and commissioning support when needed.
  • Data Collection: Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor data.
  • Technical Guidance: Interface with senior personnel to resolve potential technical and project issues.
  • Mentoring: Provide mentoring guidance and direction to junior members of the team.
  • Engineering Standards: Assist in compiling and maintaining internal engineering standards and work practices.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institute.
  • Registration: Eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA).
  • Experience: years' experience in electrical substation design.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, extreme attention to detail, solid base knowledge of electrical theory and mathematics, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of relevant Canadian, Ontario, and Alberta codes and standards (CEC, CSA, AEUC, OESC, etc.) would be advantageous.
