Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the role of Market Worker. This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Market at the Lighthouse, working closely with the Community Ministries Program Co-ordinator to develop and implement programs that align with The Salvation Army's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Connect families with Pathway of Hope Caseworkers to provide comprehensive support services.
  • Collaborate with the Community Ministries Program Co-ordinator to maintain a stable food supply and ensure efficient inventory management.
  • Participate in Food Forest planning and development, working closely with the Community Ministries Worker and Program Co-ordinator.
  • Support and supervise Market and Food Forest Volunteers, ensuring they have the necessary resources and guidance to excel in their roles.
  • Ensure volunteers have regular breaks and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Maintain consistency in service delivery by implementing and enforcing policies and procedures, such as pricing, restocking shelves, and ensuring a consistent client experience.
  • Submit regular reports to donors and partner organizations, highlighting the impact and effectiveness of the Market and Food Forest programs.
  • Enter data into Link2Feed, a database used to track and analyze program data.
  • Present statistics and stories about the Market at the staff weekly meeting and to the Community Engagement Coordinator.
  • Design and create flyers highlighting grocery deals, communicating TSA Events, and sharing a message from the team.
  • Support Special Events, such as food drives and holiday events, by scheduling, setting up, and coordinating logistics.
  • Build and maintain relationships with grocery partners, ensuring a stable and consistent supply of food and other essential items.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Community Ministries Program Co-ordinator.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a related field, such as social work, community development, or a related field.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience will be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • Two years of prior related experience, including up to one year of work in community/social services or experience in non-profit organizations.
  • Proven experience and advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including proficiency in data entry and database management.
  • Experience utilizing online data databases/programs, with a high level of efficiency and accuracy.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Ability to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, including Child Check (if appropriate).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to communicate comfortably with fellow staff, volunteers, clients, and community partners.
  • Exceptional organization and timekeeping skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop holistic programs that meet communal needs.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, while ensuring the functionality of the ministry.
  • Ability to lead a team through transition with kindness, compassion, and efficiency.
