Facility Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY
The Facility Support Specialist operates within various departments, primarily focusing on Environmental Services and Dietary functions. This role encompasses assisting in the preparation and serving of meals, as well as maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Interpret recipes and product guidelines to aid in the preparation of both hot and cold meals, ensuring proper food storage while adhering to temperature standards and spoilage prevention.
2. Organize food service stations with a variety of offerings including entrees, soups, salads, and beverages, ensuring timely replenishment and clearing of tables at the conclusion of meal services.
3. Utilize kitchen tools and equipment for various tasks such as measuring, mixing, washing, and serving food items.
4. Comply with all operational policies and procedures, ensuring that daily opening and closing tasks are executed effectively.
5. Maintain cleanliness by sanitizing workstations and equipment, following established health and safety protocols, and conducting inspections to meet service standards.
6. Perform general stocking duties in service areas, while keeping accurate records and requisitioning supplies as necessary.
7. Engage positively with clients, providing assistance as required.
8. Attend mandatory training sessions and participate in committees as needed.
9. Carry out general housekeeping and laundry tasks as required.
10. Conduct deep cleaning and disinfection of designated areas upon request.
11. Manage the delivery and distribution of personal items to resident rooms.
12. Handle the exchange of linens and personal items, as well as the collection of soiled materials.
13. Assist in waste management efforts.
14. Support the orientation of new employees.
15. Actively participate in infection control initiatives in line with provincial guidelines.
16. Assist in the implementation of quality management practices, including home audits as requested.
17. Perform additional duties as assigned.
18. Incorporate Resident Safety principles into daily activities, following safe work practices and promptly reporting any potential risks.
19. Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and relevant regulations, ensuring safe execution of duties in accordance with established health and safety policies.
20. Maintain confidentiality in line with applicable privacy legislation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma (Grade 12 OSSD)
• Completion of Food Handler Training Program
• Smart Serve Certification
• Basic ability to follow both oral and written instructions, along with effective communication skills with residents and staff.
• A current Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
• Documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements, are necessary for employment.
• Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• Previous experience in a related field is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Some physical effort is required for cleaning, lifting, moving carts, and assisting clients.
• Frequent walking and standing are necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• This position is situated within a long-term care facility, where exposure to illnesses and germs may occur.
• The work schedule will vary, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
