Description
MNP, a leading national accounting, tax, and business consulting firm, is seeking a skilled and culturally sensitive Senior Accounting Technician to join our Indigenous Services team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing financial guidance, support, and expertise to our Indigenous clients.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the economic development and prosperity of Indigenous communities while advancing your accounting career. With over 270 Indigenous clients and 500 team members dedicated to this sector, MNP has invested significantly in serving the unique needs of Indigenous communities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive full-cycle bookkeeping and payroll services for MNP Indigenous clients.
- Take the lead in preparing and maintaining payroll and related government remittances/filings, recording of sales, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable, payroll, and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) transactions.
- Initiate client files and support the development of budgets and administrative planning.
- Maintain, monitor, and reconcile GL accounts, including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, and intercompany and point of sale (POS)/system uploads.
- Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies, discuss with supervisor or engagement partner to develop resolutions.
- Communicate with government agencies regarding information requests, assessments, and payment installments.
- Build collaborative relationships with clients and team members, supporting an environment of teamwork and open communication.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum two years of bookkeeping experience.
- Experience working with desktop or cloud-based accounting packages, including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, Xyntax, Adagio, and/or other legacy desktop products.
- Experience with Indigenous communities or enterprises is preferred.
- Accounting certificate or a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration (accounting, finance, or management information systems (MIS) major is considered an asset).
- Experience executing accounting system implementations; conversion experience moving from desktop-based products to cloud applications is preferred.
