Job Summary

The School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is seeking qualified candidates to work as casual Education Assistants. This role involves providing specialized support for students with identified special needs, as directed by the Principal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to students with special needs, as directed by the Principal.
  • Work effectively with students and adults, communicating appropriately with other staff members, students, and parents as directed.
  • Be part of a collaborative team, maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality in working relationships with all school personnel, students, parents, and the public.
  • Work as part of school-based planning teams, as required.
  • Be flexible and work with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to dispense approved medications, as prescribed by the student's doctor, in accordance with Board Policy No. 310.
  • Work with non-compliant students in a non-confrontational manner.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention will be provided.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
  • College of the Rockies SPEDA course, Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker Program, or equivalent College Program recognized by other School Districts in the Province.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and adults.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with other staff members, students, and parents as directed.
  • Ability to be part of a collaborative team, maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality in working relationships with all school personnel, students, parents, and the public.
  • Ability to work as part of school-based planning teams, as required.
  • Ability to be flexible and work with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to have a valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License.
  • Must have understanding and knowledge of safe work practices.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a school-based setting, providing support to students with special needs. The ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain confidentiality is essential.
