Product Design Engineering Specialist

The Design Engineering Specialist at Teknion is part of a multi-disciplinary project team responsible for engineering development of new products and custom variations of existing designs. We are seeking an individual with a strong background in design engineering principles and who is analytical, creative, and willing to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment.

The Design Engineering Specialist will work with Industrial Design concepts and Customer Requests to ensure that products meet the design intent, are manufacturing-friendly, meet cost targets, and meet industry testing and safety standards. The candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing electrical product solutions, managing the construction of prototypes, and validating design criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize electrical product solutions for a given need
  • Manage the construction of prototypes and validation of design criteria
  • Interact with Industrial Designers and Manufacturing Engineers
  • Ensure integration of requirements from relevant electrical safety standards
  • Use SolidWorks to develop accurate 3D models of parts and assemblies
  • Develop engineering drawings for prototyping and production
  • Plan and perform product testing to evaluate compliance with applicable safety standards
  • Submit final designs for third-party compliance verification
  • Review test data and final construction reports
  • Provide preliminary BOM and product cost estimates
  • Contribute to the development of new processes and tools to simplify manufacturability
  • Integrate Design for Environment and Sustainability into product designs

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in Solidworks
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience as a design engineer in product development
  • Knowledge of design principles
  • Experience with various tooling designs
  • Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of technical safety standards will be an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO standards will be an asset
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
