Project Engineer-In Training (EIT)

Our client in Airdrie is seeking a skilled Project Engineer-In-Training to collaborate with their team. The successful candidate will assist Project Engineers and Engineering Managers in coordinating project execution in accordance with client requirements and objectives, within cost and schedule constraints, and in quality procedures and practices.

This position involves applying practical knowledge and developing a broad base of skills while contributing to the overall success. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinating multi-discipline functions or areas within the project scope, encompassing engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning (as applicable).
  2. Assisting with management of interfaces with key project stakeholders.
  3. Working with senior project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time, on budget, and according to contract requirements.
  4. Assisting with management of project scope and coordinating change management submissions and processes.
  5. Participating in Piping and Instrumentation Drawing (P&ID) reviews and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs).
  6. Preparing and maintaining line, equipment, instrumentation, and specialty items lists.
  7. Coordinating and assisting with the sizing and selection of the project's valves, instrumentation, and process equipment.
  8. Participating in Bid / Evaluate / Award process.
  9. Interacting with purchasing and expediting to follow up on buyouts.
  10. Reviewing and approving vendor drawings and documents.
  11. Reviewing and approving fabrication drawings.
  12. Participating in 3D model reviews and construction planning meetings.
  13. Coordinating and reviewing the compilation of Project Data and Operating Manuals for distribution to the project team and client.
  14. Performing shop inspections and resolving technical issues.
  15. Reviewing ship loose lists.
  16. Assisting with resolutions of shop and field Requests for Information (RFIs).

Requirements include:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
  2. Registered, or eligible for registration, with APEGA.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  4. Demonstrated aptitude in project management.
  5. Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical engineering principles to solve problems.
  6. Ability to work in a team environment.
  7. Flexible and able to meet objectives while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and strict deadlines.
  8. Ability to anticipate the effects of change and plan accordingly.
  9. Superior interpersonal, verbal, written, and graphical communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully.
  10. Excellent reading, research, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and utilize complex information.
  11. Understanding of complex verbal and written instructions.
  12. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  13. Ability to monitor the quality of own work and create systems for checking accuracy.
