About the Role

As a key member of the Ceremonies and Events Office at Simon Fraser University, this role is responsible for planning, managing, and executing various annual events. Reporting to the Associate Director, Ceremonies and Events, you will provide assistance with logistics and event coordination for annual Convocation ceremonies.

The incumbent of this position will manage all pre-, on-site, and post-event activities, including budget development, timeline creation, procedures implementation, and program execution. You will oversee staff and event volunteers, negotiate contracts with internal and external stakeholders, and manage promotional materials creation.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute annual events, such as university celebrations and milestone events.
  • Assist with logistics and event coordination for Convocation ceremonies.
  • Manage event budgets, timelines, procedures, and programs.
  • Oversee staff and event volunteers.
  • Negotiate contracts with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create promotional materials.

This role requires excellent communication, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with accuracy and attention to detail. You will work cooperatively with event partners, senior university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni in various settings, exercising mature judgment, tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and discretion.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Arts or Business, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Four years of relevant experience in event management and communications, including managing high-profile events or multiple smaller events simultaneously.
  • Excellent budget management and event management skills.
  • Excellent communication and marketing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Estimated Salary Range

$74,288 to $88,609 annually.
