Job Title: Controls and Machine Vision Specialist

The Controls and Machine Vision Specialist plays a crucial role in developing, implementing, and testing control systems and machine vision solutions to meet project requirements. This involves designing electrical schematics, programming control systems, and ensuring safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver efficient, cost-effective products on time, while handling client interactions, technical support, and material sourcing.
  • Assess project requirements by reviewing client specifications and drawings, and visit client sites to understand product integration and new project requirements.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics and develop testing procedures to ensure project compliance with safety standards and performance requirements.
  • Update and revise drawings based on client feedback and ensure final approval from the project lead and manager.
  • Research and identify suitable materials to meet project specifications, preparing a bill of materials (BOM) for approval.
  • Communicate with suppliers to gather additional information or explore alternative material options that improve product functionality or reduce costs.
  • Develop and implement control programs for PLCs, HMIs, and other control systems required for product functionality.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to control systems, production, and testing to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide clear, concise instructions to the technician team for assembly and offer additional support as needed.
  • Support the sales team during meetings with current or potential clients by providing technical insights, when requested.
  • Evaluate potential machine vision projects and review third-party feasibility studies.
  • Design, program, test, and verify machine vision systems, ensuring they adhere to user requirements and physical configurations.
  • Participate in the installation of products at client sites, troubleshooting and addressing electrical issues onsite.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local safety and electrical standards, ensuring compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, machine vision, and safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills to guide the technical team and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address technical challenges in design, testing, and installation.
  • Ability and willingness to follow company policies, safety standards, and client requirements.
  • Client-focused approach, building positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate and address potential issues and conflicts in project execution.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills across engineering and technician teams.
Experience:
  • 35 years of recent technical experience in control systems, PLC programming, and machine vision integration.
  • Hand-on experience in electrical design, control programs, and machine vision system implementation.
  • Previous experience working in automation or manufacturing industries is an asset.
Special Conditions:
  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or a related field.
  • Must be proficient in the use of electrical design software (AutoCAD, EPLAN, etc.).
  • Experience in machine vision systems and their programming is essential.
  • Must be willing to travel to client sites for installation, troubleshooting, and meetings.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies is preferred but not required.
