Job Summary

The Royal Mental Health Centre is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide holistic nursing care to patients, utilizing effective communication skills, observation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Develop and implement individualized patient care plans, taking into account client-centered nursing care principles.
  • Recognize patient readiness to learn and provide patient teaching, promoting independence and self-management.
  • Manage and direct the care of patients in crisis situations, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Administer medication safely and effectively, adhering to policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care, promoting a culture of teamwork and respect.
  • Participate in program and discipline-related committees, contributing to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Apply the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform patient restraint as outlined by the Task Analysis, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Contribute to a work environment that promotes staff and patient/client safety, adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment, and Discrimination-Free Workplace Policy.
Qualifications
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BScN preferred.
  • Certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years recent nursing experience in Psychiatry is mandatory.
  • Experience in Forensic Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Clear understanding of the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice, as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation is an asset.
  • Experience in Forensic Psychiatry is an asset.
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months.
  • Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Workshop (CPI).
  • WHMIS update in the preceding 12 months.
  • Fire training update in the preceding 12 months.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension and oral expression.
Salary Range

$37.93 to $54.37 per hour
