Emergency Medicine at Vancouver Island Health Authority

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physician Assistant to join our emergency medicine team. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency environment. You will work closely with experienced healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care and make a positive impact on the lives of our patients.

About the Role

- Provide high-quality patient care in accordance with established medical guidelines and protocols
- Conduct thorough assessments, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
- Perform various procedures, including minor surgeries and other interventions as needed
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals

Responsibilities

- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care
- Develop and implement treatment plans in accordance with established medical guidelines and protocols
- Perform various procedures, including minor surgeries and other interventions as needed
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions and treatment plans

Requirements

- Two years' recent experience working in an emergency department setting (preferred but not essential)
- Proof of compliance with continuing professional development requirements of the PACCC or the NCCPA, and satisfactory to the CPSBC
- Maintenance of Physician Assistant licensure with the CPSBC throughout the duration of employment
- Meets the CPSBC's English language proficiency requirements
- Holds Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or is legally able to live and work in British Columbia

Mandatory Certifications

- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (with current Basic Life Support)
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Advanced Pediatric Life Support may be considered as an equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced Trauma Life Support
- Independent Practitioner Status for FAST Point of Care Ultrasound
- Airway Interventions & Management in Emergencies (AIME) Course in previous four years
- CASTED Course

Skills and Abilities

- Proficient English communication skills, including with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals
- Effective and efficient computer and written communication skills, including order entry and clinical documentation
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment and under the supervision of assigned supervisors
- Carries out professional duties in the face of multiple, competing demands
- Physical ability to carry out duties of position, including evening and overnight shifts
