About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Bridge Rehabilitation Engineer to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our District Highway Operations Division, you will play a critical role in managing snow and ice control services, road maintenance, and repair services throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and tendering of highway structures repair/rehabilitation projects for the Capital Program and District structural maintenance projects.
  • Coordinate with district staff and support staff, review field estimates, assess construction and maintenance techniques, draft contract documents, and ensure consistency in contracting procedures.
  • Procure engineering consulting services, prepare Terms of Reference, coordinate proposal reviews, award contracts, supervise consultants' work, and approve payment.
  • Evaluate existing bridge infrastructure to determine load carrying capacity of infrastructure based upon configuration and condition, using plans, inspection reports, and other available information.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering institute.
  • Current membership in Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS) or eligibility to become a member.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for dealing with department personnel, other government agencies, consultants, contractors, and the public.
