Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team at Mammoet Canada Eastern Ltd. This role is integral to our organization, providing expert legal advice on a range of issues, ensuring we always operate within the law.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide expert legal support to management on all company-related matters.
  2. Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as external regulations and laws.
  3. Manage litigation and negotiate settlements.
  4. Prepare and review legal documents including contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
  5. Provide proactive advice to Human Resources on rights and obligations in labour and employment matters.
  6. Develop legal strategies to protect the company's rights and maintain its operations within the law.
  7. Monitor and advise on laws and regulations affecting the company.
  8. Conduct legal research and provide practical business-oriented legal advice.
  9. Contribute to internal process improvement and the development and delivery of training.
Requirements
  1. Licensed to practice law in any Canadian Province.
  2. Minimum of 5 years relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a sophisticated organization.
  3. Law degree from an accredited law school.
  4. Comprehensive and in-depth understanding of applicable law, including corporate law, commercial law, labour/employment law, and industry-specific regulations and legal procedures.
  5. Excellent legal research, negotiation, and communication skills.
  6. Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and meet deadlines.
  7. High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
  8. Extensive experience in the effective management of external counsel.
  9. Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal analysis, exercise good business judgment, and provide actionable recommendations.
  10. Practical problem solver who is self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  11. Detail-oriented and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Bilingualism in French/English is an asset.
  13. Experience in dealing with regulatory bodies and government officials is an asset.
