Job Title: Data Analyst

Job Summary:

The Data Analyst will play a key role in expanding the City of Spruce Grove's use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. This position will be responsible for directing, evaluating, reviewing, integrating, and managing data resources and services across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy & Planning

• Develop and administer strategies for use-case-specific modeling.

• Develop long-term goals for production databases in conjunction with data/system owners.

• Develop and deliver strategic goals for data architecture vision and standards.

• Create tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.

• Establish processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata, focusing on quality, accuracy, and validity.

• Conduct data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements.

• Create strategies and plans for data security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving.

2. Acquisition & Deployment

• Ensure the success of enterprise-level roll out/consumption of data.

• Liaise with vendors and service providers to select products or services to meet company goals.

• Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of reporting development/publishing.

• Conduct research and make recommendations on data lake products, services, protocols, and standards.

• Evaluate, recommend, select data lake components and metadata management tools.

• Establish and maintain relationships with Business Unit staff to understand, clarify reporting needs, and develop solutions to meet those needs.

3. Operations Management

• Work with Business Unit staff to identify, create, and deliver reports according to requirements.

• Assess and determine governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing data across the organization.

• Design and manage data lake improvement and growth projects.

• Identify inefficiencies and gaps in current data lake and leverage solutions.

• Identify data discrepancies and data quality issues and work to ensure data consistency and integrity.

• Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data systems.

• Ensure the stability and reliability of data access and data quality across the organization.

• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.

Qualifications:

• Two (2) or Three (3) year diploma in Computing Science, Electronic Engineering Technology, Information Systems, or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years' experience or;

• University Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Engineering with 4 to 6 years' experience.

• ITIL Certification required.
