About this opportunity:

We are seeking a highly qualified Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled lawyer to leverage their expertise in corporate and governance law to support the operations of HOOPP.

Job Summary:

The Senior Legal Counsel will reside in the Legal Services & Governance Division and report to the Associate General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. This role will involve providing strategic legal advice and support to internal clients within HOOPP’s operational divisions, playing an integral role on the Corporate & Governance legal team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely, high-quality, business-focused and value-added strategic legal advice, and related support, with respect to a wide range of operational and corporate legal matters.
  • Identify and manage operational and corporate governance-related legal risk based on HOOPP’s risk tolerance.
  • Work directly, and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with business partners, and members of LSG.
  • Develop and maintain precedents and resources to reflect relevant changes and best practices.
  • Engage and coordinate the work of external legal counsel to resolve legal issues in a manner that aligns with HOOPP’s fiduciary duties, policies, and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Law Degree from an accredited law school or to the Ontario bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a law firm, government organization, or corporate environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the relevant areas of law and demonstrated thought leadership in such areas and related topics.
  • Strong work ethic and drive; Demonstrates full commitment and always puts in their best efforts.
  • Ability to be a persuasive advocate, including by leveraging effective negotiation and conflict-resolution skills to obtain the best possible outcome for an organization.
