Job Summary

Halton Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team in the Histology department. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for the receipt, handling, and processing of surgical pathology specimens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and analyze tissue specimens for histopathological examination
  • Prepare and embed tissue specimens for microtomy and special staining
  • Perform microtomy and special staining procedures
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure accurate and reliable test results
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure efficient and effective laboratory operations
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with new technologies and techniques
Requirements
  • Current general registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) is mandatory
  • Recent clinical experience of 3-5 years in Histology is required
  • Proficiency in embedding specimens of all complexity is essential
  • Proficiency in microtomy of all specimens, including biopsies, smalls, and bigs, is required
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in immunohistochemistry is an asset
  • Experience in specimen grossing is an asset
  • Working knowledge of all Pathology quality assurance and quality controls is required
  • Ability to work effectively as a collaborative member of a team
  • Positive attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Good employment and attendance record is required
