About the Kativik Environmental Advisory Committee

The Kativik Environmental Advisory Committee (KEAC) is a tripartite committee whose members are appointed by the governments of Canada, Quebec, and the Kativik Regional Government. The KEAC is responsible for environmental and social protection in the Nunavik region, located north of the 55th parallel on the territory covered by the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA).

Job Description

We are seeking an Environmental Policy Advisor for Indigenous Communities to join our team. As an advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the committee and management of its secretariat.

  • Under the direction of the Chairperson and members of the KEAC, ensure the general operation of the committee and management of its secretariat.
  • Maintain communication between KEAC members, the secretariat and external stakeholders, with the aim of promoting the implementation of the committee's mandate, five-year action plan and internal management policies.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with governments, communities and partners, thereby helping to promote the KEAC's mandate.
  • Promoting the role and mandate of the KEAC, as well as its work and activities, to various levels of government, organizations related to its mandate and stakeholders in the territory covered by the JBNQA.
  • Providing analysis and strategic advice to KEAC members on environmental, social, strategic or economic issues that have a direct impact on Section 23 of the JBNQA and on the territory covered by the agreement.
  • Carrying out studies and analyses in collaboration with environmental analysts.
  • Contribute to the development of the five-year action plan and participate in its implementation by following up on the plan, monitoring progress and maintaining communication with the Chairperson and members.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A university degree in social sciences or a related environmental field relevant to the organization's mission.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written French and English.
  • Relevant experience in a field related to environmental policies and issues and their impact on First Nations and Inuit rights.
  • Knowledge of the JBNQA and issues related to the implementation of modern land claims agreements.
  • Experience in managing committees made up of government partners and/or First Nations members.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is $85,000 - $105,000, depending on experience. Perreault & Associés offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
