Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced English Language Trainer to join our team at Skills for Change. As an ELT Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language training to adult learners, with a focus on enhancing their employability skills and preparing them for the workforce.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective English language training programs, tailored to the needs of adult learners
  • Assess and evaluate learner progress, using Canadian Language Benchmarks and other relevant assessment tools
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a comprehensive and supportive learning environment
  • Design and implement lesson plans, teaching materials, and activities that promote language learning and cultural awareness
  • Monitor attendance and engagement, and provide support to learners who require additional assistance
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay up-to-date with best practices in English language teaching and learning
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Teaching, Adult Education, or a related field
  • TESL Ontario Certificate and current membership in good standing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in adult LINC and/or ESL teaching, with a focus on employability skills and workplace communication
  • Excellent teaching and group facilitation skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse learning styles and needs
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks and LINC curriculum guidelines
  • Experience with online facilitation and course delivery, including technical troubleshooting and Blackboard
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve program goals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds, and special needs
  • Knowledge of access to professions issues facing newcomers, job search techniques, and employment-related vocabulary and terminology
  • Completion of Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) and Canadian Language Benchmarks Boot camp
  • Experience with curriculum development and implementation, including lesson planning and content creation
