Manager, Equipment Planning

BC Cancer is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Equipment Planning to join our team. As a key member of our Cancer Redevelopment Equipment Team, you will be responsible for managing the planning, construction, procurement, installation, and commissioning process for capital equipment purchases for Redevelopment Projects.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the identification of capital equipment requirements and associated budgets for major capital projects, including the development, management, and execution of medical equipment acquisition strategies.
- Work with the Project Team and program or service representatives to coordinate and integrate clinical and equipment planning needs.
- Develop and manage an operational and equipment budget for assigned clinical areas, including responsibility for managing Equipment Planners & Coordinators and other designated staff internal and external to the organization.
- Provide leadership to project teams on the development of capital equipment plans, including the development of business case plans related to budget planning, forecasting, and documentation.
- Provide consultation and advice on technical equipment as it relates to procurement and contract documents and processes, including Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and Project Agreements.
- Establish project teams by identifying needs and skills required, directing and supervising staff, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Manage assigned projects and project development according to approved project charter, implementing project plan according to project methodologies to ensure successful and coordinated completion of project components.
- Work with senior clinical users to ensure capital equipment requirements and specifications are based on a clear understanding of the clinical requirement for the applicable program or service.
- Manage the relationship with the Design Builder(s), compliance teams, and contractors on all equipment-related issues and acts as a conduit for all medical equipment communications on designated projects.
- Lead project teams through the project design phases to ensure the facility design accommodates equipment and equipment-related requirements.
- Manage the work of the Equipment Planners & Coordinators working in conjunction with architectural and engineering consultants to ensure regional standards and safety policies are met and maintained throughout the equipment planning, selection, installation, and commissioning phases.
- Determine and create work plans and resource requirements for the installation and commissioning activities associated with medical equipment for assigned capital project(s).
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Applied Science (BSc) degree in Biomedical/Clinical Engineering supplemented with seven (7) years' recent related experience, including working on major Capital & Design Build projects that includes complex medical equipment and including two (2) years' experience in a supervisor/leadership in a large complex organization.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Strong analytical skills and organizational abilities demonstrated through related work experience.
- Ability to manage and plan major capital projects.
- Demonstrated ability to persuade and mediate multiple internal and external partners.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable software applications.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
- Support team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
- Work collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
- Have commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
