About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Hydrogeologist to join our team as a Source Water Protection Specialist. Reporting to the Program Manager, you will be responsible for providing source water protection, performing statutory duties, and leading programs such as non-potable request reviews. You will also appear as an expert witness at hearings and coordinate initiatives with agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop objectives and operational goals for source water protection
- Develop and implement technical studies and strategies to identify vulnerable areas and drinking water threats
- Develop policies related to the protection of drinking water sources
- Support the Risk Management Official under Part IV of the Clean Water Act
- Provide hydrogeological expertise and support to all aspects of Planning
- Develop and/or enhance existing groundwater quantity and quality monitoring programs
- Appear as an expert witness at hearings
- Recommend the hiring of and monitor the work of outside consultants
- Respond to inquiries and resolve concerns from the public
- Ensure that services provided meet Regional customer service standards
- Participate and/or lead on committees, work groups, task forces, and special projects
- Prepare reports, data, briefing notes, presentations, statistics, and analysis
Requirements
- University Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience
- Registration as a Professional Geoscientist or Professional Engineer
- Successful completion of the provincial certifications for Risk Management Inspector (Part IV) and Section 88 Property Entry
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts, By-Laws, Regulations, and guidelines
- Working knowledge of all aspects of the Clean Water Act
- Working knowledge of best management practices, industrial environmental management systems, responsible care, and pollution prevention programs
- Familiarity with hydrogeological databases, modelling, and analysis techniques
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies
- Demonstrated negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications
- Ability to travel to offsite locations and work outside regular business hours
