Job Title: Software Development Manager

This is a critical senior-level management opportunity within our client's growing IT team. Our ideal candidate would be a proven leader who is passionate about people management and has the ability to effectively lead a team of 35 people made up of Solutions Developers, Designers, and Technical Team Leads.

The successful candidate will have a solid technical understanding, preferably within Distributed Technology, and will be able to effectively lead a team of professionals. The focus of this position is hands-on leadership, and the ideal candidate will be able to model the vision and culture of the ITS department, inspiring and influencing others to achieve results.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Providing effective practices to guide people as they deliver solutions
  2. Ensuring defined practices meet corporate and customer needs
  3. Ensuring the workforce meets corporate and customer needs
  4. Providing skilled and knowledgeable people to delivery areas
  5. Ensuring that people are engaged and informed
  6. Developing existing people to meet delivery needs
  7. Acquiring new people to meet delivery demand
  8. Providing day-to-day coaching and development to team members
Personal Characteristics:
  1. Proven leadership ability and understanding of what constitutes an effective leader
  2. Demonstrated results orientation with the ability to 'get things done'
  3. Solid judgment and decision-making skills with the ability to think outside the box and make difficult decisions when required
  4. Strong relationship building skills and collaborative work style, with the ability to work in partnership with various stakeholders across all levels of the organization
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively lead a diverse employee group
  6. Strong level of comfort around managing people, including the ability to effectively coach and develop employees
  7. Strong level of flexibility and comfort working within a constantly changing environment, with the ability to act as a change agent and champion corporate direction
  8. Proven ability to work within a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and juggling multiple competing demands to effectively meet delivery needs
Qualifications:
  1. 10+ years of IT-related experience is required, with direct experience in the related technologies and/or disciplines
  2. 5-10 years of experience in a leadership position, with total accountability for the day-to-day people management of a large number of direct reports
  3. Completed university degree or college diploma is required
  4. Experience working in a start-up environment would be considered an asset, as the ability to live with and clarify ambiguity is often required
  5. Previous experience building successful teams is highly regarded
