The RoleAs a Health Care Aide (HCA) at our community, you will report directly to the Director of Care or designate. Your primary responsibility will be to provide person-centered, holistic care to our residents, adhering to established policies and procedures while maintaining their rights and dignity.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Following established care plans to ensure personalized care for each resident
- Providing personal care services, including bathing, grooming, dressing, meal assistance, oral hygiene, and other applicable duties
- Responding promptly to call bells/alarms to ensure timely assistance
- Maintaining accurate records of residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes
- Utilizing proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aids, such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers, to transport residents safely
- Aiding with lifting and/or transferring residents using established techniques
- Assisting residents with nutrition, including meal preparation, nourishment, and tray service, as needed
- Encouraging resident participation in food service and clean-up activities
- Performing laundry for residents' personal clothing as required
- Involving residents in organizing and maintaining their living space according to their preferences and needs
- Participating in community and education programs to enhance skills and knowledge
- Collaborating positively and professionally with all team members and supervisors
- Performing other related duties as necessary
To excel in this role, you must possess:
- A graduate diploma from a recognized Care Aide Program
- An active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
- A Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is considered an asset
- Medication Administration Certification is also an asset
- Prior experience in a long-term care facility is advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care
- Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
- Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- All successful applicants must undergo a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial guidelines
- Must be physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand, and walk as required
We offer a competitive salary range of $25-$32 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
