Job Summary

The Controller is a key member of the Bursar's Office team, responsible for overseeing the financial services functions, including Student Accounts, Accounts Payable, and General Accounting. This role requires strong leadership and analytical skills, with a focus on financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Planning and Budgeting
    • Assist the Bursar in preparing the university's annual budget and quarterly financial forecasts.
    • Develop and implement financial planning and budgeting processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis
    • Prepare and present financial reports to the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee on a quarterly basis.
    • Perform financial analysis and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Financial Operations
    • Oversee the financial services functions, including Student Accounts, Accounts Payable, and General Accounting.
    • Ensure accurate and timely financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Direct supervisor of three Bursar's Office staff members, including Student Accounts, Accounts Payable, and General Accounting.
    • Monitor and evaluate performance, providing guidance and support to ensure team success.
  • Compliance and Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies, including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) legislation.
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring the university's financial stability and security.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience
    • CPA designation.
    • Undergraduate degree in business administration or commerce.
    • 8+ years of progressive experience, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong attention to detail, time management, organizational, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven, team-based environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
