About the Role

The BC SPCA is seeking a skilled Animal Protection Officer to join our team. As an Animal Protection Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the welfare of animals and enforcing animal cruelty legislation.

Job Summary

This position involves investigating animal cruelty complaints, enforcing laws and regulations, and providing compassionate care to animals in need. You will work independently and as part of a team to achieve our mission of protecting and promoting the welfare of animals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations into animal cruelty complaints and enforce related laws and regulations.
  • Provide expert advice and support to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement agencies and other organizations to address animal welfare concerns.
  • Prepare reports and make presentations to Crown Counsel or other relevant authorities.
  • Engage with the public to promote animal welfare and provide education on responsible pet ownership.
Requirements
  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., animal science, criminology, social work).
  • Post-secondary education in investigation skills and processes.
  • Law enforcement experience and knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Valid BC Class N or 5 driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Criminal Record Check.

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.

This position requires regular travel throughout the province and occasional overnight stays. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are essential for this role.
