Job Summary

Baycrest is seeking a highly skilled and experienced MEG System Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the MEG equipment, securing permanent cooling of the MEG system, and performing daily system performance tests to guarantee the operation of the MEG within its specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily maintenance of the MEG equipment.
  • Secure permanent cooling of the MEG system, including daily recording of helium boiloff and level, planning refill cycles, and performing helium transfer from storage tanks.
  • Perform daily system performance tests to guarantee the operation of the MEG within its specifications.
  • Train MEG users in operating the MEG and the related laboratory equipment.
  • Assist MEG users in operating the MEG equipment.
  • Assist MEG users in planning experimental setup and configuration of MEG recording.
  • Assist MEG users in managing acquired data, such as data transfer, storage, and backup.
  • Participate in MEG data analysis.
  • Manage lab inventory and supplies for standard experimental procedures.
  • Manage a web-based system for lab scheduling and billing.
  • Manage the lab's hardware and modify it as necessary to accommodate experiments.
  • Assist in planning and implementing a new helium recycling system when and if this becomes available.
  • Maintain the cryogenic apparatus for helium recycling.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (Master of Science preferred) in biomedical engineering or mechanical, electrical, or physical engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Two to three years of relevant professional experience in engineering technology, research laboratory, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in human physiology research (e.g., MEG, EEG, EMG) is preferred.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting electronic laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency in understanding IT management, operating systems, and network administration.
  • Programming experience, preferably in Matlab and Python.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to influence others and work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Mentoring and coaching skills with the ability to support team members.
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of technical and research information procedures for analysis and interpretation in a healthcare environment.
  • Well-developed leadership, client relations, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a team.
