About the Role:

Homewood Health is seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team in Elective Psychiatry Services. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with diverse needs and backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care on units across Elective Psychiatry Services, adhering to CNO standards and RNAO Best Practice Guidelines.
  • Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs, ensuring seamless services and programs for clients and customers.
  • Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members to provide comprehensive care.
  • Act as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as needed, supporting the growth and development of colleagues.
  • Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Accept changing work assignments across Elective Psychiatry Services, adapting to the needs of the team and patients.

Requirements:

  • Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice, with a preference for experience in mental health.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and documentation standards (CNO).
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients.
  • Current knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behavior.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience working with various systems and software applications.
