Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a highly skilled Lab Scientist - Genome Analyst to join their team at Vancouver General Hospital. As a key member of the Cytogenetics Laboratory, you will be responsible for performing analysis and clinical interpretation of hematologic cancer specimen testing results using state-of-the-art genomic technology, Optical Genome Mapping (OGM).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform wet-lab procedures for test validation activities
  • Work under the direction of the Director of the Cytogenomics Laboratory and Department Head
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to prioritize competing demands
  • Develop and maintain expertise in molecular genetics techniques and laboratory procedures
  • Contribute to the development of new laboratory procedures and protocols

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • PhD in Cancer Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, or related field
  • Experience in wet-lab performance of molecular genetics techniques and knowledge of current laboratory procedures
  • Experience with chromosomal microarray or next-generation sequencing data analysis
  • Test validation experience and knowledge of genetic databases and software

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven track record in research and academic communication activities
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under time-pressure
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
