ROLE SUMMARY

BC Ferries is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Affairs team. As a key member of our team, you will provide valuable legal advice to all departments and work closely with Senior Leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee contract negotiation, review, and preparation of commercial agreements, including construction contracts, commercial leases, and information technology agreements.
  • Provide legal advice on maritime law issues and support for all departments.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Oversee legal claims, corporate finance undertakings, environmental law regulations, trademarks, copyright, and marketing issues.

REQUIREMENTS

You must have a Juris Doctor, Law Degree, or equivalent with membership in good standing with The Law Society of British Columbia. A minimum of 1-4 years of legal experience in a major law firm or corporation, with broad legal knowledge specifically in a highly regulated industry such as marine transportation, is required.

BC Ferries offers a competitive salary range of $102,200 - $127,700 per annum, with a starting salary determined based on the successful candidate's knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
