Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant, Infection Prevention and Control to join our team at Island Health. As a key member of our Infection Prevention and Control team, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and evaluating our organizational Combined Quality System (CQS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of CQS across the organization.
  • Collaborate with regional programs on reprocessing, education, purchasing of products and medical devices, construction, developing policies and procedures, outbreak management, environmental service liaison, and systems improvements.
  • Act as the IPAC link with senior leaders, IPAC Practitioners, front-line workers, healthcare professionals, and other staff at all levels of Island Health and other Health Authorities, the Provincial Ministry of Health, and external organizations.
  • Maintain schedules, associated coverage, manage and monitor attendance, and evaluate IPAC staff performance.
Requirements
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related health discipline and five (5) years' recent related infection prevention and control experience in a healthcare environment, including progressive administrative responsibilities.
  • Membership/certification with a relevant registering association and post-basic education in infection prevention and control or epidemiology required.
  • Thorough knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control services, techniques, principles, and practices.
  • Strong systems-thinking, critical analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully educate adult learners, including the development of in-services, lesson plans, competency testing, and orientation using different delivery methods based on students' strengths.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully manage and support change through negotiation and facilitation.
  • Ability to lead in the support, development, and education of Island Health policies and procedures related to Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Ability to find creative solutions to problems and develop alternative strategies to support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Computer proficiency in areas such as patient information, surveillance, and office suite software.
  • Valid BC Driver's License.
