Salary Range
$80,028 - $103,916 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Addictions Counsellor to join our team at the Kahnawake Survival School. The successful candidate will provide confidential, safe, and non-judgmental environment where a therapeutic relationship can be formed to facilitate treatment, prevention, and health promotion to students and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized counselling, education, and support services to students and their families by helping them understand and address substance abuse and related mental health issues.
- Develop and implement school-wide awareness and prevention programs focusing on drug and alcohol use and vaping.
- Conduct screenings and thorough substance abuse assessments to identify areas of concern and develop targeted interventions.
- Collaborate with external service providers when required to ensure comprehensive support for students and families.
- Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding student referrals and information discussed in counselling sessions.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work or related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Addiction Counseling Certification from a recognized Addiction Certification Board.
- Thorough knowledge of substance abuse causes and effects, as well as evidence-based models of treatment intervention with youth.
- Experience working with youth (high school level) in grief and trauma.
- Strong knowledge and comprehension of the pedagogical and administrative direction of the Kahnawà:ke Education System.
- Knowledge of Kanien'kehá:ka culture and socio-economic issues.
- Complete proficiency in English language.
