Job Description

As a Senior Cost Management Specialist at Turner & Townsend, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality cost management services to our clients. This includes:

  • Preparing Comprehensive Cost Estimates: Develop and present detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including education, healthcare, residential, corporate occupier, and commercial projects.
  • Managing Cost Planning Activities: Oversee estimating and cost planning processes, taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan/estimate.
  • Applying Value Management Techniques: Implement value management strategies at the outset of a project and where applicable.
  • Post-Contract Cost Management: Manage post-contract cost activities, including change order analysis, monthly cost reporting, and payment certification.
  • Ensuring Effective Cost Analysis: Manage cost analysis, cost checking, and valuation work to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Participating in Value Engineering: Contribute to value engineering, LEED analysis, and life cycle costing initiatives.
  • Leading Cost Management Teams: Take a lead role in interfacing with clients and other consultants at all project stages, and lead a cost management team to deliver on accountabilities.
  • Researching Construction Market Conditions: Conduct research on construction market conditions in Canada, including analysis of official published data.
  • Managing Commissions and Financial Responsibilities: Manage commissions and participate in basic project and financial management responsibilities, such as fee tracking and invoice preparation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Business Development: Identify potential opportunities and highlight them to Associate Directors and Directors.
  • Staff Management: Contribute to the performance review process of consultants and graduate consultants.
  • Recruitment: Participate in the selection and recruitment process, including interviews.
  • Knowledge Management: Ensure that key information and learning generated from each commission is input into the Turner & Townsend internal database.

Requirements

  • Experience: 7 years' experience delivering pre-construction and post-contract construction cost services.
  • Education: A recognized University Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership of relevant professional organizations, such as the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS), The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and/or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE).
  • Reliability Clearance: Reliability clearance with the Government of Canada is an asset.
  • CostX Experience: Knowledge of and experience using CostX is an asset.
