Job Summary

The York Region District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team on a casual/on-call basis. As an Education Assistant, you will provide specialized support to students with identified special needs in a school-based setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, as directed by the Principal.
  • Work effectively with students, adults, and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless support.
  • Participate in collaborative team planning and contribute to the development of individualized education plans.
  • Assist with the implementation of behavior management strategies and provide support for students with challenging behaviors.
  • May be required to dispense approved medications and sign medication forms, as prescribed by the student's doctor.
  • Work collaboratively with the school-based planning team to develop and implement strategies to support students with special needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • College of the Rockies SPEDA course or equivalent college program recognized by other School Districts in the Province.
  • Minimum of one (1) year college-level training in the Human Services field, with a focus on training in behavior management and students with special needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and adults, and communicate appropriately with other staff members, students, and parents.
  • Ability to be part of a collaborative team, maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality in working relationships with all school personnel, students, parents, and the public.
  • Ability to work as part of school-based planning team as required.
  • Ability to be flexible and work with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to have a valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License.
  • Must have understanding and knowledge of safe work practices.
