Job Title: Asset & Resource Optimization Analyst

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a highly skilled and analytical individual to join our Energy Markets team as an Asset & Resource Optimization Analyst based in downtown Toronto.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing the commercial value of OPG's fleet resources in the market through outage optimization, short and long-term fleet generation forecasting, and performing strategic analysis in support of negotiations with other market participants, regulators, and policy makers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop an optimized outage plan considering transmission impacts and coordinate with IESO and Hydro One.
  • Negotiate Hydro One outage revisions and IESO system configurations and advise on outage scheduling based on system conditions.
  • Support short and long-term outage optimization and analysis, analyze past activities for future outage strategies, and perform after-the-fact analysis of OPG's hydroelectric activities in the Ontario Market.
  • Develop integrated hydro operational strategies and plans, coordinate outage scheduling for optimal resource use, and develop outage strategies to mitigate risk to production impacts over all time frames.
  • Create hydroelectric energy forecasts for the business planning and monthly periods with focus on impacts from outage programs and inflow profiles.
Requirements:
  • Candidate's that are fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario will be an asset.
  • 4-year university degree in Engineering, or a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
  • 6 Years of relevant work experience.
  • Power System Operations: 3+ years experience, including knowledge of BES and market dynamics.
  • Hydroelectric Generation: Familiar with operations, pricing, and optimization strategies.
  • Commercial Experience: Skilled in intelligence gathering, negotiation, and stakeholder interaction in Energy Markets.
