Job Overview

The RBC Law Group is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Lawyer to lead the team providing key legal advice on securities and treasury initiatives.

About the Role

This permanent position, located in Toronto, offers an excellent opportunity for a seasoned securities lawyer to work closely with senior management and other functional partners on financial reporting and corporate treasury projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of lawyers providing strategic legal advice on securities and treasury matters.
  • Advise on RBC's continuous disclosure obligations under Canadian and US securities laws, supporting Finance, Investor Relations, and Corporate Communications on quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Treasury on global capital and debt issuance programs, including US, European, and Japanese programs.
  • Provide expert guidance on a broad range of securities law matters to support the RBC Disclosure Committee, establishing and maintaining robust disclosure practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Law from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in a Canadian jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of 12-15 years of experience in securities law, preferably in private practice or in-house roles, with a focus on disclosure, securities issuance programs, and securities law matters.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strategic and practical thinker able to manage competing priorities, make independent decisions, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Self-starter with ownership of key projects and ability to work with stakeholders, regulators, and industry groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house experience at a financial institution.
  • Background or undergraduate degree in finance or accounting.
