Transportation Planning Coordinator

Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is seeking a skilled Transportation Planning Coordinator to support the implementation of the City's transportation plans, including the Transportation 2040 Plan and the Climate Emergency Action Plan. This role will involve providing research, analysis, and communications support for various transportation projects, as well as developing plans, presentations, and data visualizations for Council reports and public engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide research and analysis support for transportation projects, including corridor planning studies and data analysis.
  • Develop plans, presentations, and data visualizations for Council reports and public engagement.
  • Liaise with staff from various divisions and departments, including Planning, Engineering, and Sustainability.
  • Support the development of transportation policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to advance transportation planning goals.

Qualification Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require a completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented by post-secondary training in planning, public policy, transportation, or a related field. You will also need sound experience as a Planning Assistant II or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Sound knowledge of local transportation issues and best practices for sustainable transportation.
  • Clear interest and passion for active transportation and transit, addressing climate change, healthy cities, and urban resiliency.
  • Sound knowledge of transportation corridor general needs and constraints, as well as associated transportation data.
  • Good knowledge of the City's transportation network, including roads, transit, and cycling, as well as transportation policies and regulations.

Working Conditions

This role is eligible to participate in the City of Vancouver's Flexible Work Program, which allows staff to work remotely 1-4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite.
