Advanced Mechanical Systems Developer

A challenging role awaits at ABB, a leader in spectroscopy and space optical sensors. As an Advanced Mechanical Systems Developer, you will join one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec City, working on complex systems development for harsh environments.
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Lead Design Engineer - Opto-Mechanical Solutions to oversee the design, manufacture, and analysis of opto-mechanical systems. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range estimated between $110,000 to $140,000 per annum.
Key Responsibilities- Design instruments according to requirements, costs, and deadlines;
- Select and optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, folding, 3-D printing, etc.);
- Check and sign off plans in accordance with geometric tolerancing standards;
- Supervise assembly and mechanical environmental tests;
- Rigorously document mechanical design, establish tolerancing budgets, and inspection plans;
- Oversee assembly, commissioning, and test plans for prototypes;
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and present to customers at critical milestones;
- Actively participate in planning tasks and technical proposals (estimation);
To succeed in this role, you will require:
- A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 5-10 years of experience in complex systems development, knowledge of optical systems an asset;
- Knowledge of materials, mechanical manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments;
- Knowledge of geometric tolerancing principles;
- Knowledge of structural and/or thermal finite element analysis (FEA) (asset);
- Experience in designing instruments for harsh environments (asset);
- Knowledge of manufacturing standards for high-pressure equipment (ASME) or in explosive environments (ATEX) (an asset);
- Member of the OIQ;
- Bilingualism (French/English) and aptitudes for written and spoken communication, with French being required and English necessary for customer communication outside Quebec.
