We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Deputy Registrar/Staff Justice of the Peace/Court Clerk Monitor. This position is based in Thompson, MB, and requires excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Job Summary:

This is a regular/full-time term appointment that will involve performing various court-related duties, including clerking and monitoring Provincial and King's Bench criminal, family, and civil court sittings. The successful candidate will be responsible for recording court proceedings, marking and recording exhibits, reading charges, reading oaths to witnesses, maintaining order in the courtroom, completing court dispositions, and all related paperwork.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clerk and monitor Provincial and King's Bench criminal, family, and civil court sittings
  • Record court proceedings, mark and record exhibits, read charges, and read oaths to witnesses
  • Maintain order in the courtroom, complete court dispositions, and perform other pre and post-court related duties
  • Hold the designation of a Deputy Registrar and Staff Justice of the Peace and perform the duties associated with those appointments
Requirements:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Satisfactory Enhanced Security Check - Level III
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Ability to lift and transport related equipment weighing up to 14 kgs/30 lbs
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary with little notice
  • Ability to travel to other court centres and circuit court locations by car, airplane, and other means of transportation with the possibility of overnight stays
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to meet workload demands
  • Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver's Licence
  • Must qualify for an appointment as a Staff Justice of the Peace pursuant to statutory requirements
Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a legal or office environment performing data entry, preparing and processing complex documents in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks in pressure situations with strict deadlines
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a respectful workplace
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent English verbal communication skills with the ability to project vocally without error
  • Excellent English written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) or equivalent programs
Salary Information:

The salary range for this position is $51,519.00 - $67,387.00 per year, plus Remoteness Allowance, if applicable.

Location:

This position is based in Thompson, MB, and may require travel to other court centres and circuit court locations.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate must be able to lift and transport related equipment weighing up to 14 kgs/30 lbs and work overtime as necessary with little notice.
